I've created a 30 page document with alternative headers and footers that are
the same just shifting from left to right. having checked everything (twice)
including the page set up, margins, font sizes, paragraph, spacing etc etc
whenever i print the document the odd pages are printing about 5mm higher on
the page than the even ones. including the header, footer and text.

If you display nonprinting marks, for example by pressing Ctrl+Shift+8, do
you see any undesired contents (such as at least one blank paragraph) in the
larger header?

Hi, just tried that (thanks) and there's no undesired contents. The document
appears fine on screen and both odd and even headers appear to be the same,
its only when I print the document that it shifts. It seems to be the whole
page that shifts, so both the header and footer move up the page.
