Default Changing column width in the Word table

One of my co-workers using the same template for creating documents in Word
2003 as other my co-workers, has recently faced the problem with manually
changing column width in a Word table. When attempting to drag the column
border nothing happens at all. Since the problem can only be reproduced on
that co-worker's PC, I assume that some Word setting might be turned on or
off that prevents manual column resizing. Does anyone know what this might be
and how to solve this?

Will the columns change if one adjusts the width using the dialog box from the
Table menu? (If you don't know how to find this, tell us which version of Word
is being used.)

If that's the case, then I'd suspect a problem with either the graphics card or
the mouse driver.

This may also be a result of "Snap to grid." Display the Drawing toolbar,
choose Draw | Grid, and make sure that option is not checked. Or you can
override the grid by pressing Alt while dragging.

Thank you all for your replies. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what had
happened. On the next day the problem evaporated without leaving a chance to
figure out what was the reason for its occurence. I believe that some
settings might have been changed by my co-worker. Anyway, thank you all!
