How to permanently set paragraph settings to zero not auto in Word
Yes this is an MS-Word question, but I need to explain like this - I have
been using Outlook ever since the first release many years ago. Most of my friends consider me the Guru on it. However, I have been fighting with my MS-Outlook for some time now, with a specific problem I just cant figure out. I guess this is a combination of MS-Outlook-2003 and MS-Word-2003. For tech purposes here is the outlook version and etc.. info I have. MS-Outlook 2003 (11.6359.6360) SP1 Part of MS-Office Professional Edition 2003. Anyway, I don't like my E-Mail documents all being either 1½ or Double spaced all the time. I prefer single spacing, with -0- spacing above and below the paragraph line. I know how to set this, Lord knows I have done it thousands of times. However, that is the problem. I would like to figure out how to set it to what I want permanently! As it is now EVERY time I open a new E-Mail to send out, then I have to highlight the entire E-Mail, go to -Format Paragraph- and inside there change the Before & After Spacing to -0-. Because it is by default set to -Auto-. I just want to know how to get rid of the setting of -Auto- and set it to a default of -0-. This may still be an Outlook problem because I haven't seen this in Word
itself. If you just need to customize Normal or some other style, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...alTemplate.htm, but I don't think that's the issue, since the default for Normal is 0. I therefore suspect that if you are using HTML mail in Outlook, this is an HTML thing (and I gather that if you're working in an email, you're working in Email.dot rather than Normal.dot). You might, however, try checking the box for "Don't use HTML paragraph auto spacing" on the Compatibility tab of Tools | Options. -- Suzanne S. Thank you Suzanne
I tried this and it did not help. Also, I went to the webpage you suggested and it did not have any answers that helped. I then went to http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styl...ifyAStyle.html and read through Shauna Kelly's stuff and nowhere in there did I find an answer either. Guess I am stuck changing it every time I open a new email! WHAT A PAIN!! Thanks again for your assistance! "Suzanne S. When you change the paragraph setting in Word, are you changing it in Normal
style and checking the box for "Add to template"? And has it been established that Normal style is the one in question? I don't use Word as my email editor, so I'm not really knowledgeable about this. Again I suggest that an Outlook NG might be better. -- Suzanne S. Suzanne
I have tried changing it in both the Normal.dot and in the email.dot and it still doese not work for me. I don't have any trouble with word, just outlook when I use word as my email editor. As far as posting in the Outlook area, I went there first and was told I should go here in the word area because I am using Word for my editor and that word is the program giving me the troubles. I still have my post in the Outlook area and I am keeping an eye on both to see if I get a working response from either. "Suzanne S.
