Default text box v frame

Can anyone please explain the difference between text boxes and frames? And
how do I know which ones I am working with in a pre-existing document?

I'd be really grateful for any help. Thanks.

A text box is an object in the graphical layer of the document whereas a
frame is a formatting parameter of the text. You can tell which you are
working in by selecting the border of the frame/text box and right clicking.
The dialog will indicate whether it is a frame or a text box.
