How to change heading number in each Autocaption?
When you select a Heading Level for an autocaption in Word 2003, it applies
the selected Heading Level to every caption in the document. Is there a way to choose a different Heading Level for every caption so that the caption shows the specific section it's in (i.e., Figure 3-1, Figure 3.2-1, Figure 3.2.2-1, etc.)?-- CandyJ |

You would have to try and create the relevant fields (SEQ) for yourself. Given that referencing the "current" heading of *any* level (say, through STYLEREF in the header) is very tricky and error-prone, I wouldn't be looking forward to this task. Maybe a VBA solution would be easier ("ex-post code": use the caption style but w/o numbering, run through the document once all is done, keep track of the latest heading and insert the numbering.) I don't think this numbering scheme helps the reader a lot in the first place, though. # or h1-# would be my choice. 2cents Robert -- /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign | MS \ / | MVP X Against HTML | for / \ in e-mail & news | Word |
