When I save a new word document, then later retrieve it from a folder, it
displays as a wordpad. How do I keep the file as a word document? Driving me
crazy. . .
XP Office 03. Thank you.

It is still and always will be a Word document. It is merely the file
association that is wrong. See How to re-register Word when problems crop up

Graham, I did as you suggested however it did not change the setting. I did
discover by going to the tool bar/edit/ then hit edit that the file came up
as a full word document. I will give MVP a shot. Thank you for the assistance.
