how to i use the backgrounds and border templates that i have downloaded from
office live? ie, when i try to use one of the borders around a table, it
just inputs the object as if it was a picture and same with backgrounds.

Were they downloaded from the Clipart Gallery? Do you have a link as an
example of what you downloaded? If you weren't expecting pictures/graphics,
what were you expecting? What version of Word are you using?
