Default Want first page to have header-no, but footer-yes

I'm sorry but Headers and Footers in Word seems to just get more and more
complicated. I have the new Word 2007 graphical with Vista. I want to have no
header on the first page, but I do want the footer. Choosing "Different on
First Page" removes them both. I don't want to remove them both! Also, on the
last page, I want the header to be there, but no footer. How can this be
accomplished? Thank you!

When you choose "Different first page," you get a separate First Page Header
and First Page Footer. If you want the same footer on the first page as on
the remaining pages, you must simply copy the content of the Footer and
paste it into the First Page Footer.

Thank you! It would be great if the Help file actually talked about this! I
assume for the change to the last page that I would have to create a separate
section and change the headers and footers that way - is that correct?

No, you can do that with an IF field as follows:

{ IF { PAGE } = { NUMPAGES } "Text you want on the last page" "Text you want
on all pages except the last"}

Each pair of field delimiters (the things that look like braces but can't be
entered from the keyboard) must be inserted using Ctrl+F9.
