Default Alpha-search mechanism

Can anyone help?
I have a raft of notes on historic facts (at present in one word document)
which I need to refer to from time to time. I therefore need to €śset-up€ť an
alphabetic index to locate them. I can do this with hyperlinks?? However,
what I want to do is have an alpha-search such as is in the Microsoft help
files. €“ i.e. as I begin to type a reference €“ the index names will then
scroll-up. Does anyone have a solution? (I can do the initial setup of
index names)
