Problems Saving Printer Settings When Printing Envelopes
Hi All,
I have an end user we just upgraded to Office2007. She created a mail-merge document. Each time she goes to print, she has to go into the properties of the printer, and change the Paper Options Size to Envelope#10. After she prints and then closes the document, when she opens the document back up the printer settings default back to Letter. This happens for new documents as well as other documents she previously worked on. She had no such issues with office2003. The envelope setting would always be there so all she had to was click on the print and she was all set. Any thoughts? Thanks, Zoey |

Problems Saving Printer Settings When Printing Envelopes
It shouldn't make any difference what the printer properties say the page
size is. The printed page size is set from the document page layout. Simply ensure that in the print dialog the zoom setting 'pages per sheet' is set at 1 page and that there is no scaling set. What does print preview show? What happens when she simply merges the envelope to printer (or new document)? What happens if you use the #10 envelope template(s) that you can download from my web site. Problems Saving Printer Settings When Printing Envelopes
Graham,
Thanks for the reply and the very useful link. The printed page size from within the document page layout is already set for "Envelope#10". The same thing in "Print Preview", I see the envelope#10 there as well. The problem is, when going into the printer properties (This is an HPLaserjet4300 PCL6 driver) the option for page size is always 8 1/2 x 11. For some reason this will not save when changing the setting to Envelope#10. This is an experienced user with mail-merge, so I believe her when she tells me this worked in Word2003 (otherwise, I would be hearing from her all day long) using the same print driver. I've googled this problem and found other people having similar issues, but no real resolution. As you mentioned, I would think if the envelope setting is set in the page document properties, the printer settings would reflect, but its not the case. I'm at a loss. The page setting in the driver properties should be irrelevant. The document
sets the page size. What is printed should be reflected in print preview and you have confirmed this to be the case. Check for yourself that what the user claims is true. I always shudder when anyone mentions HP printer drivers See if there's an update at http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/ ) -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Zoey wrote: Graham, Thanks for the reply and the very useful link. Problems Saving Printer Settings When Printing Envelopes
Graham,
I couldn't find any updates from your link for this printer (HP4300). It does make sense though what you are saying, if the envelope#10 is in the "Print Preview" and the "page setup" area of the document. The user did try this though: (1) She hit the "quick print" button without changing any printer settings, and it worked. (2) However, if she clicks the office button and pulls down the print dialog box it still has the letter settings and has to be changed. * So it appears there is some progress, but something flaky with the office2007 program and the HP driver. Thanks for making some sense to this. "Graham Mayor" wrote: The page setting in the driver properties should be irrelevant. The document sets the page size. Problems Saving Printer Settings When Printing Envelopes
I didn't check the link before posting, but that us where HP puts its beta
drivers that attempt to cure the cock-ups in the release version. The Print dialog doesn't show the page size. There is no reason for the user to go digging into the printer settings from this dialog to change the page size in order to print an envelope. If she accepts the defaults it should work just as if she had pressed the Quick Print button. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Zoey wrote: Graham, I couldn't find any updates from your link for this printer (HP4300).
