Default Creating a template with locked margins

I've created a template for my letterhead, with type and images in the left
two inches of the page. Is there any way to lock this so I don't mess up the
letterhead elements when I create a new document from this template?

These elements should be in your First Page Header. See
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Letterhead.htm ("More complex
letterhead") and http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/AnchorToHeader.htm.
