Default Using IF Formula in Header to display a specific Heading

What I'm trying to do:
If a Heading 2 style appears on a page, I want the first instance of it to
appear in the Page Header. If it doesn't appear, I don't want anything
displayed in the Header.

I've tried using variations of the following IF formula with no success.
The result it returns is: 2}

Formula:
{ IF {Heading 2} = {Heading 2} {StyleRef "Heading 2" \* MERGEFORMAT } " "}

Suggested solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
