We have office for Students. On my "Word" program the word "File" is missing
from the top left of the screen and now the bar starts with "Edit" !!??

If I log onto my sisters account it appears OK.

Finally, we got the Student Office package at a discount as it is for
school. How do you go about registering it as surely everyone would go out
and buy the cheaper version?

Tools | Customize (or right click any toolbar and select customize)
Go to the Toolbars tab
Select Menu Bar and click RESET
If necessary, do the same for the Standard and Formatting toolbars as well.
Close the box when you are finished
