Default Changing numbering format in 'note options' need remediation

When attempting to change numbering format in note options for endnote (from
lower-case roman numerals to numbers) in a TWO COLUMN document causes the
referenced line to become a single column and it distorts the entire document
if the original footnote was writting in a single column mode.

I know this sounds confusing... but if you place a reference in a document
as a footnote while writing in a single column and then switch to two columns
and THEN change the reference to an endnote and THEN try to change the
numbering format to numbers and not lowercase roman numerals it changes the
formating of the document around the reference. Hopefully that makes sense.
