Copy macros to a new normal.dot?
I created some macros, with icons on the toolbar for some functions I
perform oftem, such as table to text, and toggle between portrait and landscape. I had problems with a style of bulleting I had set up which seems to originate from my normal.dot template, so I renamed it and let Word create a new default template. Of course my macros set up on the tool bar were gone. Is there an easy way to extract only the macros and icons from the old normal.dot (normalBAD.dot) and import them into the new normal.dot? I had drawn the icons pixel by pixel, and there are a half dozen or so functions. Thanks, Mich |

Use the Organizer (Tools | Templates and Add-Ins, click the Organizer
button) to copy code modules from one template to another. I don't know of a way to retrieve the icons, though. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "M Skabialka" wrote in message ... Open NormalBAD.dot and, using Tools | Customize, create a new custom toolbar
saved in that template. Drag your custom buttons to the new toolbar. Then open a new document based on Normal.dot and, again using Tools | Customize, drag your custom buttons to the Standard (or whatever) toolbar. Alternatively, you can copy the custom toolbar to Normal.dot using the Organizer. Note that you'll also have to remember to copy the macros associated with the buttons. Another approach is to create the custom toolbar as suggested, then copy it to a newly created template and save that template to Word's Startup folder to load as an add-in. This approach is often recommended as a means of storing customizations because they are then not lost if you have to rename Normal.dot. -- Suzanne S. Copy macros to a new normal.dot?
To be fair, I've never actually had to do this, but I have read about it
here. g I have my toolbars customized heavily, including a lot of custom button images (my own and borrowed ones), but I've never had to rename Normal.dot, so I've survived so far. touch wood -- Suzanne S. Copy macros to a new normal.dot?
It worked! I created the toolbar and organized it to my new normal.dot.
Great stuff! Until recently I didn't use Word much other than for standard letters and memos, etc - I'm having a lot of fun figuring out what else it can do! Thanks both for your help.
