Is this the symbol you mean? ¶ That's a nonprinting "paragraph
mark".

If so, are there also dots instead of spaces between words? If you
press the Tab key, do you get a little arrow pointing to the right?

If you see all those things, click the ¶ button on the toolbar to turn
off all nonprinting characters.

If you see only the paragraph marks, go to the Tools Options View
dialog and uncheck "Paragraph marks" in the Formatting Marks section.
