Default default page setup in Word 2003

New doc opens with 8.5"x9" page. I must go into page setup, layout, borders,
and click no borders to get a normal 8.5"x11" page. I clicked on default to
try to make that setting permanent, but it does not take. How do I get Word
to open a normal page?

Default default page setup in Word 2003

In Word 2002 or 2003, click on Tools | Options | View tab | check the
"White space between pages" box | OK.

In Word 2007, click on Office button | Word Options | Display | check
the "Show white space between pages in Print Layout view" box | OK.
