Default Continuine numbering, list style default

When I create a numbered list style it always defaults to "continue numbering
from previous list". I don't want that, I want it to restart numbering each
time I create a new list after following another style like "body text". The
older version of Office did this.

Hi ?B?dHJpY2hpZQ==?=,

No older version of Office has done this since Word 95... The numbering was
completely revamped for Word 97, and has had this standard (and unchangeable)
behavior since then.

The information at this link shows you one way to work around the problem

I read all the links you gave me and I am really confused now. I guess I
just stop using styles for numbered lists and do it like all the other idiots
out there with the tool bar. Perhaps Word Perfect can handle this simple
task.

I gave you only one link...

The principal described boils down to this: Your "real" numbering starts with
the second level. The first level (which need not be defined with a number) must
be applied to (a/any) paragraph that precedes the start of the new list. This
will automatically cause the first list entry (level 2) to restart at 1.

The alternative is to create a new style for each list in your document.

Yes, I agree, it's a PITA. We're hoping MS is going to get the problem
straightened out in the next version of Word...
