Default Docs superimposed rather than cascade?

Haven't tried this before - using W2000 so perhaps it's a bit out of date -
but I want to open a series of word docs one on top of the other, in
different windows in the same Word so that I can easily copy from one, close
it, and go on to the next. I am surprised that I can only get a cascade of
separate windows rather than one on top of the other so that I can copy down
from them one at a time, into a spreadsheet in the lower half of the screen.

I would have thought this would be possible, but cannot see how to do it
from the available options.

Am I expecting too much of the prog, or just missing something?

Cheers,

S
