Default How do I make tabulated columns in Word?

For my records managment class, we have to write out practice files on 3" by
5" index cards, however we also have the option to make our files with
tabulated columns, which I would rather do then write out hundreds of index
cards. The problem is, I don't know how to make tabulated columns. Please
someone tell me what to do!

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/SettingTabs.htm. Presumably there
is some reason for not using Word's Table feature?
