Tried to save changed MS Word 2003 file but error message "Word cannot
complete the save due to File Permission Error". Have never and don't know
how to restrict or release permissions. No Permission function on File menu,
and no Permission incon is on my standard toolbar. It would be nice to
prevent permission from all future restrictions, in addition to getting out
of this jam.

When you get this error message, are you trying to save to a
local hard drive, a network drive, a CD, a floppy disk, or some
other type of removable media?

Simply saving changes to file on Crive My Documents as usual, Thanks Tom

Could be too many Word temporary files on your hard drive. Try
the instructions for cleaning out Word temporary files at
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm .

Thanks, got response showing how to unlock wordfile by changing properties of
save as, which did the trick just fine. However, how did the file get locked
in the first place? It is a document that I had been working on daily--I
opened and closed it a dozen times. Then, one day, it was locked out of
saving changes. This has happened to other wordfiles a couple of times in the
past. Any thoughts on how it may have been locked, or how to prevent locking
in the future? I don't ever need to lock up a file.
