Default Adding filename and path to footer

Okay, searched for 15 minutes and still can't figure out how to do this.

I want to insert the filename and path into a footer. In Word 2003, there
was a function that popped up when you inserted a footer that allowed you to
select pre-determined info to insert in the footer -- date, page number,
filename, filename and path, author, etc.

Where is this in Word 2007???

Thanks.

I see that you have decided to persevere, stick with Word2007 awhile longer,
and shelve the profanity ;-)

This time I can commiserate with you over your angst. For whatever reason
the developers haven't included File Name or File and Path into the
collection of built-in footer gallery buidling blocks. All is not lost.
You can easily resolve this to your satisfaction.

Create and save a new blank document. Name it anything and save it
anywhere. Then click in the footer, press CTRL+F9, and in the field code
brackets that appear type FileName \p. Right click the field and press
"Update field" then toggle field code.

Now select the entire text and paragraph mark. On the Insert Tab, click the
Header & Footer Group, then click the Footer control. At the bottom of the
gallery that appear click "Save selection to footer gallery." Follow the
prompts in the dialog to create and save the new building block item. In
the future, the item will appear in that gallery.

That is helpful. The addtion of the "(" in the definition makes them appear
at the top of the gallery before the regular built-in clutter (personal
opinion ;-) ).

Thanks.

I did it -- lot of work.

What will happen if I stick my original Word 2003 CD in the computer and
install Word 2003 -- will I crash my system, screw up Word 2007 -- or --
will it simply install Word 2003 so I can use it and not use 2007??

Or maybe I should try it and see what happens -- set a restore point to
return to in case it turns out bad.

Thanks.

Actually Word2003 and Word2007 get along together quite nicely. I have both
installed and use both nearly everyday. You don't need to set a restore
point (but I don't suppose it is a bad idea). Graham Mayor has some
pointers for running both applications together
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm. If you read that first you
shouldn't have any problems.
