Ctrl+Shft+E keyboard shortcut in Word 2007?
I recently installed Encarta on my laptop, and assigned the Encarta taskbar
the easy-to-remember shortcut of Ctrl+Shft+e (originally I absentmindedly used Win+e as my shortcut, but you know why that didn't work; Shft+e was my next unsuccessful attempt). Ctrl+shft+e seemed to work for a few days, but then I realized that when I was in Word, it wouldn't. I couldn't find any document online that had this keyboard shortcut, but a search result with an expired page said that "CTRL+SHFT+E, Turn revision marks on or off." As I said the page itself has been taken offline but the result preview said that this is an editing shortcut. I'm not sure what do to or how to change this shortcut--I'd really like Ctrl+Shft+e for Encarta. How can I remove this key from Word? I went into the Word Options/Custom/Keyboard shortcuts: customize button, but didn't see how to find and then remove this keyboard. Any suggestions? -- Paul Vista Home Basic Office 2007 |

You would be able to find the command in the Customize Keyboard Shortcuts dialog if you know where to look (choose the Review category, then select the ToolsRevisionMarksToggle command), but there's an easier way to locate the command for any given shortcut: Press Ctrl+Alt+number-pad plus sign. The cursor changes to a clover-leaf symbol. Type the shortcut. The Customize Shortcut dialog will open directly to the command assigned to that shortcut (if any), and you can then remove or redefine the shortcut. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |

That Ctrl+Alt+plus sign was a great trick. On my laptop I had to hit the
NumLock button (I don't have a separate number pad), but that did it. OK I was able to select that shortcut, then hit remove. So now, Word doesn't think I want to review changes etc. etc. However, when I am in Word, Word still doesn't know that I want to go to my Encarta search bar. In Explorer, in any folder, this shortcut combo will insert the cursor in that bar. But in Word, nothign happens. This isn't the end of the world--I can always just move the cursor to the bar, before I start typing, but I'd love to be able to do this from within Word, via a shortcut. Is there anything I can do about this? -- Paul Vista Home Basic Office 2007 "Jay Freedman" wrote in message ... I think that what you are looking for is a "system wide hotkey" rather than
a hotkey that only works in a specific application. As far as I know, there is no built-in functionality in Windows to add/edit such a hotkey directly. However, a quick Google search turned up several freeware applications which can add/edit such keys. Maybe you could try one of those. Yves "Paul" wrote in message ...
