I seem to recall being able to extract highlighted text in a previous verison
of Word, I think it was under the Edit menu, but now that the office has
upgraded to Word 2003 I can't find it any more.
Where has it gone? Does anyone know?

Thanks Suzanne, but it was much much easier than that, it was something that
was available from a pull-down menu... the edit menu, and it assembled all of
the highlights in a document into a new document.

If you have already highlighted (as in applied color to) the text you want
to extract, Edit | Find might work.

In MacWord 2004, it would work like this‹Word 2003 should be roughly the
same.

Edit | Find, click on More

Cursor in the Find Box‹-leave it empty but use the Format menu to select
Highlight (this tells Word to Find all Highlighted text)

Check the box that says "highlight all items found" (this will tell Word to
Select all the found items--highlight is a misnomer here)

Click Find All--all your highlights should now be selected

Return focus to the document without un-selecting the selected found
items--try clicking on the title bar, not in the doc

Edit | Copy will now copy all selected text to the clipboard, and you can
paste as desired

Possibly your previous version had a custom add-in that reproduced a similar
process?

It depends what you mean by "highlight." I was erroneously assuming you were
(incorrectly) using the term (as many do) to mean selected, in which case
Copy and Paste would do what you want. If you really mean you've applied
Highlight color, then Daiya's suggestion will do it for you.
