ToolsOptionsView
Under Formatting marks, uncheck Spaces.

Hi Abe-

The 'dots' usually indicate where a space has been typed, but I've never
seen them red unless the spaces were inserted while Track Changes was turned
on. Normally the dots are gray and elevated above the baseline of the text to
avoid confusion with periods.

If that is what they are, you can simply click the ΒΆ (Show/Hide) button on
the standard toolbar to hide/reveal them. They are a part of what are called
'non-printing' characters that indicate where & how white space is created in
the document.

If that doesn't fix it, post back with as much detail as you can, including
version info.

But, why on earth would they be red?

Didn't see that fact. I don't know? Unless the text is red? Or there
is confusion between the dots and the red squiggles for...what one is
red, Grammar?

No, grammar is green. Spelling is red, but the squiggles are just under
words, not under the spaces, and the dots still aren't red. I think it has
to be something to do with Track Changes (inserted spaces are red if red is
selected as the markup color).

Ok I've just had the same problem. When in Outlook 2003 the user
creates a new message and when he starts typing the spaces between the
words, automatically three red dots appear at the bottom of the line
between the words, as if you made three red periods like ...

This just started up for no apparent reason though I suspect he may
have been clicking on options. I know for sure that there is nothing
checked under tools\options\view\formatting marks AND there is no red
text being used. The dots are red and the letters are black as you
normally would type them.
