sort ToC alphabetically
Is there a way of sorting a ToC alphabetically?
I have several tables with items, descriptions, etc. Colum 1 lists the items. I have a table of contents of the items, now is there a way to sort this alphabetically? |

Yes, but understand that an automatically generated TOC is a field. First,
save your document and then use Save As to work on a copy. To sort such a field, you would first change it to ordinary text. Click in the TOC and try to select something until the entire TOC is selected. Then press Ctrl-6 or Ctrl-Shift-F9 to unlink the field. With it still selected, go under the Tables menu and select Sort. You want to sort by paragraph. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. Thank you, that helped and thanks for the other sites.
Now, can I hyperlink the ToC back to the document? "Charles Kenyon" wrote: Yes, but understand that an automatically generated TOC is a field. Yes, by inserting hyperlinks. When you unlinked the field it flattened out
the hyperlinks too. Try it without unlinking. I don't think it will work but it is worth a try. If you want something alphabetized, why not create an index instead of a
TOC? -- Suzanne S.
