Thumbs up Answer: HOW CAN WE CHANGE PAGE BORDER FROM PT INTO CENTIMETER

To change the measurement for page border from pt into centimeter in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:
  1. Open your Word document and click on the "Page Layout" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  2. Click on the "Page Borders" button in the "Page Background" section of the ribbon.
  3. In the "Borders and Shading" dialog box that appears, click on the "Options" button at the bottom of the window.
  4. In the "Border and Shading Options" dialog box, you will see a section called "Measure from:" with a drop-down menu next to it. Click on the drop-down menu and select "Centimeters" from the list.
  5. Click "OK" to close the "Border and Shading Options" dialog box.
  6. Now you can set your page border measurements in centimeters instead of points. Simply enter the desired values in the "Width" and "Height" fields under the "Settings" section of the "Borders and Shading" dialog box.

That's it! Your page border measurements will now be in centimeters instead of points.

You can enter the value in centimeters in the Borders dialog -- for example,
type in 0.5cm -- and Word will automatically convert it to the corresponding
measurement in points.

To go the other way... Word can't. You'll have to use a calculator (one happens
to be part of Windows) to multiply the measurement in points by the conversion
factor 0.0352778 (which is 2.54 cm/inch divided by 72 points/inch).

One other thing to look at, from the menu, select Tools, Options. On the
options screen, select the General tab. You should have a Measurement Units
list that includes Inches, Points, Centimeters, etc...

Unfortunately, neither your answer nor the one I posted will do what ferari
asked for. Having gone and looked, the Page Border dialog's Width dropdown
allows only the choices that are hard-coded into it, all of which are in points.
Even with a macro, you're limited to the same selection of widths.

If you want a border with a specific width in centimeters, you can calculate the
equivalent in points (multiply the number of centimeters by 28.35) and choose
the nearest available entry from the dropdown.

I think the question is about margins and/or rulers, rather than
border(line)s around paragraphs.

In that case, Kathy's solution would be the right one -- but in this
case, google doesn't even show me an author entry in the message list,
unlike the many items that were posted night-before-last that show me
no message when I click on them (someone else noted the same problem
in another thread recently).
