Abbreviated Short title for TOC
I have a title of an article that's longer than needed for the TOC. I thought
I saw a way to substitue a shorter title for what is marked for the TOC, but I cannot find it. I am imagining it or is there a way to do this? EG: For "HIGGINS PREMIUM PET FOODS ANNOUNCES CASH PRIZES FOR 2007 NATIONAL CAGE BIRD SHOW" use instead "Higgins Announces Cash Prizes for NCBS" Thanks, Mary |

Abbreviated Short title for TOC
Your best bet in this instance is to use a TC field. Note that you must also
check the box for "Table entry fields" in the TOC Options dialog for it to actually show up in the TOC. Also, you'll have to apply some style other than the heading style you're picking up for the TOC (unless you build the entire TOC with TC fields instead of styles or outline levels); you can create a non-heading style (that is, one with an outline level of Body Text) that is formatted just the same as the heading style applied to other headings at the same level. Also, note that if you wanted to include the entire title in the TOC, you can control wrapping so that it doesn't overrun the page number. This and other tips can be found in http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm. -- Suzanne S.
