Using Word On Two Monitors
In my usage of Word (2003), I almost always need 2 documents open side
by side (full window) so I can compare, edit, and cut and paste between them. My question is: can I use 2 monitors to do this? If, so, can you outline the steps I would utilize to achieve this? For example, do I open one instance of Word or two? Someone told me I can't open 2 instances of Word, so I would have to use a single 24 inch monitor and open one instance of Word and have the 2 documents side by side..but this would be less than optimal as the work area for each document would be less. If possible with 2 monitors, can anyone recommend a brand of 19" monitor that can also be rotated 90 degrees? Thank you for your help! George M. |

Using Word On Two Monitors
I beleive it was Word 2000 Pro that introduced the possibility of linking 2
monitors into one logically contiguous display. Then you could open 2 docs in the same instance of Word and tile them side-by-side. I suggest you post your query in a Windows NG for more information on how to go about this. -- Ted |

Using Word On Two Monitors
I do not know how well Word supports using two monitors. However, to
begin, you have to set up the two monitors under Windows. Some video cards support dual monitors. If yours does not, you will have to either replace it with one that does or add a second card for the second monitor. To begin, check he http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u..._multimon.mspx http://www.viewsonic.com/pdf/wp_dualmonitor.pdf. I have a Dell 20" widescreen flat panel (2005FPW) and I can rotate the panel 90 degrees. You may want to check though, I think my video card controls the actual picture rotation. I can physically rotate the panel, then I use Display Properties - Settings - Advanced which brings up my ATI controls where there is a tab for "Rotation" that changes the screen orientation. This monitor also has a Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture feature but I believe there has to be a separate input source to use those features. Just to experiment I did a 90 degree rotation and I was able to have one Word Document open at the top and one at the bottom. You will still have less work area than your full screen but it's not that bad. I would assume it would probably vary according to your screen resolution setting. And they do make bigger widescreens than the one I have if you need lots of space. |

If so could you possibly try the "Reading Layout" view and see how it appears with the 2005FPW. It should display two (real size) A4 pages side by side but I would appreciate confirmation that it does actually work before I order one. Many thanks |

Many thanks No, I have Word 2002 and I couldn't find a "Reading" layout. But this is what I did try: First of all, I had to set the screen resolution to the maximum - 1680 x 1050 (and did not rotate the screen) Letter size (8 1/2 x 11), portrait orientation 1" margins, 12pt Times New Roman font "Normal" layout/view Zoom set at 125% Created 2 Word documents and placed them side by side (sized the windows to achieve largest view size possible, overlapping a bit without covering any of the typing on either document) I can see the full width of each page but not the full length without scrolling down. Each document is easily readable to me at 125%, the 100% would be a little small for me if I had to work with it for a long time. This of course will most likely vary from person to person and on the font and font size you use. When I switch to "Print Preview", it comes up at 79% zoom, then you can see the full page. I'm still able to read it at that size but *I* wouldn't be comfortable reading it for long. I also tried the Print Preview with one 2 page document and you can see the full width, but not full length, of the 2 pages all the way up to a 95% zoom. PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to keep in mind that Dell specifies that in order to obtain the max resolution of 1680 x 1050 your system and graphics card must be able to support that resolution. Also, I don't know if it makes a difference, but I have my monitor hooked up via the DVI connection. Hope this helps!!! |

Thanks for trying that. What is the highest percentage zoom you can use
and still see the full width and length of two pages side by side? |

wrote in message oups.com... Thanks for trying that. What is the highest percentage zoom you can use and still see the full width and length of two pages side by side? About 83% in "Print Layout" view if I get rid of the ruler and all toolbars (except the standard one). That is with letter size, 8 1/2 x 11 paper. |
