when I exit word it asks if I want to save the file I am working on. Often I
have already saved the file. I always want it to save and close. How do I do
that?

Click on "Yes" when prompted. Being given this prompt is important because
you will, eventually, run into a situation where you want to say "no."
Sometimes, in error, we make changes in documents that really mess it up and
even Undo seems unable to help. Then it is good to be able to just scratch
it and start over from the last save.
