Default Format changes while typing and page numbers will not go away

Good day,

I have a user what an ongoing problem and i need some advice. When you type
a new word document in MS Word 2003 under Windows XP with SP2 the folling
things happend.

Problem one.
While typing the first 2 or 3 paragraphs are fine, then the font changes and
sometimes the Bold or Italic changes.

Problem two.
The page numbers always appear in the fotter even when its not selected.

I tried to repair Office 2003 and I also tried to uninstall and reinstall
Office.
Thanks in advance!
