Table of content
Hello,
I have a 175 pages document with a table of content. When I click in the table of content the link opens IE and takes me to our internet web site instead of linking me to the page number in the document. I've tried to regenerate the table several times but it still links to the internet. How do I fix this please so it opens the page number in the document? Thanks. |

Have you tried going to the Microsoft Word Help and querying "Table of
Contents". It explains how to create, delete, update, etc... What version of Word are you using? ~ivcchelpdesk "karMina@office" wrote: Hello, I have a 175 pages document with a table of content. Hi,
I'm using Word 2000 and Windows 2000, and yes, I've been searching through the MS Word Help for Table of content but so far after deleting the whole TOC and recreating it with the Styles in the document, I still jump to our internet website each time I click on any line in the table of content. I don't understand what's going on here... Thanks for any help you can provide. ivcchelpdesk wrote: Have you tried going to the Microsoft Word Help and querying "Table of Contents". Hi
Does this happen to every document you create, or just this one particular document? And, what are the field codes used for the TOC? To find out, put your cursor in the TOC, do Shift-F9 and you'll see the code surrounded by special braces. Let us know what those codes are. Cheers Shauna Kelly. Hello again,
This problem happens in this particular document only. I have another similar large document with a TOC that works perfectly. When I select the whole TOC and look at the field codes (Shift F9), this is what I see: { TOC \o "1-1" \h \z \t "Heading 2.2.Heading 3.3Heading4.4titre2.2" } Now, if I click one individual line at a time the field codes a { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871855" } { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871856" } { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871857" } { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871858" } { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871859" } { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871860" } etc. etc... all the way up to { HYPERLINK \1 "_Toc90871971" } I have 120 lines in my TOC. Thanks for your help Shauna. Shauna Kelly wrote: Hi Does this happen to every document you create, or just this one particular document? And, what are the field codes used for the TOC? Hi
If it's just one document, then we know there's nothing wrong with your set up of Word in general. There doesn't seem to be anything unusual about the field codes for your TOC (In my English version of Word, I'm used to seing commas between the elements, like "Heading 2, 2, Heading 3, 3...", but since you're using a style called titre2, I wonder if you're using a non-English version of Word, which might use a full stop as the delimiter instead of commas, so while your TOC doesn't look like mine, I'm assuming it's OK.) So, if this were mine, I'd go through the following steps in this order until I found one that worked. I suggest you make a backup somewhere before you start mucking around too much with your document. 1. Regenerate the TOC. To do that, use the arrow keys to move your cursor within the TOC, and press F9. If you are asked whether you want to update page numbers only or update the entire table, *always* choose to update the entire table. 2. Delete the TOC and re-create it. 3. Delete the TOC, create a new document, copy everything in the document *except* the last paragraph mark. Re-create the TOC in the new document. 4. Make sure that the headings themselves are not linked to anything. That is, make sure there is no hyperlink from a heading to something else on your server (I'm clutching at straws he I can't really imagine this as a problem!) 5. Eat chocolate and try again tomorrow. Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Microsoft MVP. http://www.shaunakelly.com/word "karMina@office" wrote in message ...
