Default Word hangs

I have recently had problems with Word 2000. The system
hangs for no apparent reason, or stupid things happen
like I cannot delete a character without blocking it
first. Then after some frustrating time everything seems
to go OK.This may be for weeks then sudden;ly it happens
again!!!
I have looked at memory usage at the time and invariably
it is 100% usage. I have reinstalled Word many times but
this still happens.
Has anyone any suggestions? Any help or direction would
be appreciated.

See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then run through
the trouble shooting tips at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...peningWord.htm which will help
restore Word to its install defaults.
