G'Day Bob,

You have somehow saved some unwanted text into your
NORMAL template.

Please see:

Pat..thank you for that information.
I tried all of the methods to remove the text from normal file, all to no
avail.
I still get Document 1 with text in it.

Did you read the entire article? If you have removed the text from
Normal.dot and/or renamed it, and this isn't helping, then you must not have
edited/renamed the right Normal.dot; possibly there is more than one on your
system?

Pat...I found the Normal file and opened it...it opens to a blank page.
how do I save that blank page to be the new normal page? If I just Click on
Close the same old New page with the text comes up again.

If you opened Normal.dot and found a blank page, then this is not the
Normal.dot that Word is using. Look at the File Locations tab of Tools |
Options. The location given for "User templates" is the one where you want
to look for the active Normal.dot.
