Default How can I add an Appendix with correct headings to link to TOC?

I am working in Word 2007 in an existing document. I am having trouble
finding the correct headings for Appendix (I need to include Appendix A,
Appendix B, Appendix C. (then C.1, C.2, etc.). It is giving me an automatic
numbering of 7.1 where Appendix C numbers are suppose to be. I've tried to
change it, but then it changes the whole document. Any suggestions?
