Default linking excel graph to word files--how to preserve the image size

I have Word templates that import graphs from an Excel file. But when I
Update the links, it makes the graphs much larger, throwing off my page
layout. I need to be able to show the graphs in different sizes. How do I get
the image size to stay the same in my Word doc when it updates? I'm using
Mac Office 08.
