Default How can I copy/paste the table cell formatting in Word?

I want to create a handwriting practice page for my kids so that I can print
text in between the lines if I choose. Basically, I want the lines to be
1/4" apart, in this order: 1/4 pt. solid, 1/2 pt. wide dashed, 1.5 pt.
solid, 1/4 pt. solid, 1/2 pt. wide dashed, 1.5 pt. solid, etc. I got a
template from the internet that sort of works, but I want to be able to make
changes as needed, putting text in between the lines for them to copy. It is
very tedious to format each line individually. Is there a shortcut? I tried
format painter but couldn't get it to work.
I'm using Word 2003.

As I re-read this, it's not clear that the template used a table and had each
cell formatted individually. Also, every 4th row of the template had a
height of 3/4".
I'm willing to use another program if it will work better/easier.

You could create an AutoText - then you can insert a completed table simply
by inserting the AutoText. Do this:

Create a table with the series of rows you described (you may use a table
you have already created).
Select the entire table.
Then press Alt+F3 to open the Create AutoText dialog box. Type a name for
your AutoText (e.g. mytable - I suggest you use a name that is not a normal
word). Click OK.

You can then insert a correctly formatted table by typing the name of your
AutoText and pressing F3 or by pressing Return when an AutoComplete
suggestion appears (most likely when you have typed the first 4 letters of
the AutoText name unless you have other AutoTexts names starting with the
same letters).

The AutoText needs to be saved in your Normal.dot for later use. You can
save Normal.dot immediately after you have created the AutoText: press and
hold the Shift key while you select File Save All. If a dialog box opens,
asking whether to save changes to Normal.dot, click Yes.

For an introduction to AutoTexts, see this article:
