Default Error Msg closing

I have two users that get the following error when trying to save a new
document: "Some of the features in this document are not supported by
Microsoft Word 97."

If I:
1-Go to Tools | Options | Save and change "Save Word files as" to some other
setting.
2-Place a check in the checkbox ""Disable features introduced after".
3-Save the document.
4-Reverse the steps to place the settings back to "Word Document" and the
checkbox unchecked.
the settings will remain until I open an older previously save document.
From that point on, the error message returns. If I look at the settings,
they look correct.

Any ideas why these setting would appear to be changing? Where are these
settings stored (normal.dot)? Do you have a code example for resetting these
in the normal.dot?

Thanks

Hi Dennis:

The setting is stored in each individual document. You need to run the
Batch Conversion Wizard to upgrade all of those documents.

That's why I strongly advise people NOT to set Word into saving in the file
format of a previous version of Word. That's why Microsoft has released
read/write converters for Office 2007 this time around.

There are still millions of documents in corporations across the world that
are stuck in the old, insecure Word formats, because once that setting is
set, it sticks for the life of the document.

In earlier versions of Word, people did not understand just how long-lived
corporate documents are. This time around, they do. This time around, Word
is much less likely to suggest saving in previous versions, and much less
likely to have the setting stick without the user being aware of it.

Cheers
