Is there any way to make comments on footnotes in Word 2003? I am editing a
scholarly publication, and though I can insert comments on the text, the
comment button is unavailable when the cursor is in a footnote. If not a
comment, does anyone have a suggestion about how I can make notes for the
author on his footnotes?

No can do, design limitation.

You could highlight the footnote number in the main text and attach the
comment to that, probably prefixing it with "re footnote:" or somesuch.

Last I tried this, I wound up just typing directly into the footnotes as
Tracked Changes, and wasn't so happy about it.

I *think* (this is an experiment for me), that if you go to this link, you
can add your vote to an existing Suggestion for MS to add this featu
