Default Other computers opening Word document

I recently installed Office Pro 2007, and am unfamiliar with the product. I
recently created a document in Word and attached it to an email, using
Windows Mail. The recipients tell me they either could not open the
attachment, or it took a very long time. What steps do I need to take to
ensure Word attachments can easily be opened? thanks.

Save as Word 97-2003 format and attach to your e-mail. See also
