Numbering - Left indent and hanging indent separate
I am trying to format a bibliography in which I would like each citation to
be numbered. I can't figure out how to separate the left indent and hanging indent. Is this at all possible in Word 2007? For example, I would like the left indent to stay tight with the number, but retain the 0.5" hanging indent. I've looked both in paragraph and number formatting and can't get it to work. Thank you. |

You can align the paragraph numbers to the right.

Don't forget to adjust the "Aligned at" value (you may have to experiment to
get the look that you want). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Stefan Blom" wrote in message ... I tried that, but that doesn't seem to work with Hanging paragraph style. If
I use the hanging format option, then the whole numbered paragraph moves away from the number, even when I've set the number to align right. Normally hanging doesn't align the first line, but this happens automatically with Numbering, and I can't figure out how get these two things to work correctly when Numbering is in use. You are using auto numbering, I suppose? In the multilevel list dialog box,
specify a value for "Aligned at" that is slightly smaller than the 0.5" that you are using for "Text indent at." Note that you cannot use zero for "Aligned at," as that will put the number in the left margin. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "limedragon" wrote in message ... If you don't want a tab character after your number, you can follow it with
a space (or nothing) instead. Otherwise, the "Text position" (where the text after the number starts) and "Indent at" are usually the same but don't have to be. Experiment with all three settings to get the result you want. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "limedragon" wrote in message ... Thanks Stefan and Suzanne! I finally got the formatting to work well. The tab
character was the primary cause, so once I changed that, it was much easier to adjust! : ) |

I'm glad you got it sorted. As you have noticed, the options involved aren't
completely transparent; a certain amount of trial and error may be required. :-) -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "limedragon" wrote in message ... Thanks Stefan and Suzanne!
