Default Unwanted lines appear in left margin

Using Word 2002. On some pages, especially those which include text boxes or
drawing objects, I get small black vertical lines (about the height of a line
of text) in the left-hand margin. These do not appear on the screen (either
with formatting shown or hidden) generally, but they do show up in the print
preview and they do print with the rest of the document. They're not
indicators for tracked changes or comments. Can anybody help me get rid of
them, please?

Thank you.

Sorry - bad practice probably, but I wanted to bump this up because I need a
answer on this.

Can anybody help, please?

Thanks

I think everyone who reads your post will immediately jump to the conclusion
that the lines are change bars. But then you explicitly say they're not, so
I guess no one has any ideas. The fact that you don't see them except in
Print Preview and printed output is curious (and reminiscent of some other
problem documents we've seen). Try revealing field codes (Alt+F9) to see if
anything pops out. Or it could be that the lines are buried in XML
somewhere.

Thanks. I've tried Alt+F9 but nothing appears.

Something interesting has just happened, though: Word had to shut itself
down because of some error or illegal operation (it seemed to be triggered by
'Select All' and then a right-click on the selected text), and when it
restarted it had repaired some bits of the document while recovering it. It
gave me a box to show me which bits it had repaired (you can see a picture of
this he
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...lempicture.jpg ).
Each of the things it had repaired were in the exact places in the document
where the lines appear in the margin. Quite what this means I've no idea, but
it seems significant. Any thoughts, anybody?

I agree this seems significant. Provided the lines are gone, I would accept
the repairs as a gift and not worry about it any more!
