MS WORD 2000 hangs
On a windows 98 system, MS WORD 2000 hangs and will not shut down. Word only
hangs if the document is new or modified. If an existing document is opened then MS WORD shuts down normally. I recreated normal.dot but that has not resolved the problem. |

You might want to rule out program corruption as a possibility. There are
spyware programs that can download into your system, and overwrite all or certain files. There was no mention of whether or not a full viral scan was run. You might need to troubleshoot in the area of saving changes and modifications, while this is connected to the shutdown process. If you have the time, run a Thorough-Scan Disk, not Standard. I know it takes all eternity, but in Scan Disk settings, add a checkmark to "Create a log". Scan Disk will save detail of the entire process, and error details. Even if you select "correct any errors if found", it doesn't always happen. This would create a record. This might prove helpful, should you consider hiring a professional to correct the problem. Either way, this can get serious enough spread into other system conflicts. There are so many other things that could be wrong, but don't take too long on this one. This would be a good time to save, and back up all valuable documents to scanned and removable storage. "JoeG" wrote: On a windows 98 system, MS WORD 2000 hangs and will not shut down.
