Default Too many labels generated

In Word 2003 or 2007, when I merge an Excel .xls spreadsheet into mailing
labels, I get far too many labels. On the first page of labels, I get Records
1-30; on the second page pf labels, I get Records 2-31, etc., until I get to
the last page, which only has the last record on it.

I know this must be a simple fix, but I am unable to discern my error. I
think I have been following the directions meticulously, but obviously not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure how you created the mail merge main document, but normally it
would have had a Next Record field before the first merge field on all of
the labels on the sheet except for the first label. You can manually insert
such a field via the Rules icon in Word 2007 or, if I remember correctly via
the Insert Word Fields item in Word 2003.

It might however be quicker to just start again.

See the following articles on fellow MVP Graham Mayors website:

It sounds as though you are printing labels from the label preview rather
than completing the merge either to a new document or to the printer.

Doug, Graham, thanks so much for your quick responses!

It was, of course, a simple fix. Doug, your information confirmed that I
was doing everything else correctly. Graham, you were right--I was looking
at the label preview. When I actually generated the labels, all was correct.

Thaks again to both of you.
