how to renumber word figures
I have a set of Word docs that each contain auto-numbered figure captions
starting at 1, and embedded cross-references within the text body. I want to merge these files into a single document with a continuous running index of all figures. How do I force a re-number of the figures? Note: I created the 'master' document by copy-paste from each sub-document. Is there a better way to merge these docs that will take care of my figure numbering issue too? |

Were the captions created via Insert | Reference | Caption? If so,
they are built with SEQ fields. To update those in the combined document, just select all (press Ctrl+A) and then press F9 to update all fields (this includes the cross-references, too). -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "burgerbyte" wrote in message ... how to renumber word figures
Thank you... this works exactly as I had hoped. Such a simple solution, but
so difficult to find! Online Search for "renumber figures" takes me to Office Onliine support site, with 24 hits "sorted by best match" 1) Quiz: Excel formulas 2) Top 10 ways to plan your wedding with Office 3) Color it effective: How color influences the user need I go on? This is F***ing TERRIBLE The support of users in forums is the only thing that keeps me from totally trashing my Office installs and moving on... Quite a statement from someone who was actually employed as a developer for 5 releases of Office in Redmond! Somebody please take note!
