Hiding the borders in a middle column of a table
I've got a seven-column table that I want to look like two three-column
tables, next to each other. I click on the middle column, go into Borders and Shading, and remove the top, middle, and bottom horizontal lines, but when I look at the table, I see the top and bottom border. I tried removing the border from around the table, but that didn't work - it only got rid of my verticle lines! I'm in Word 2000 on Office XP. Thank you |

What you have done should work, but if it doesn't, you'll just have to be
more persistent. After removing (in effect) the Inside Horizontal Borders, select just the top cell of the column and remove the top border; then select the last cell and remove the bottom border. If this doesn't work (and if you didn't create the table), then it may be that the whole table is embedded in a large single table cell; that will be more difficult to deal with (you'll have to somehow get the table out). Or it could be in a text box or frame that has its own border. -- Suzanne S.
