Link text (eg. "See Table 5") to table caption number in Word?
I would like to refer to tables and figures, by their caption number, within
the text of my document and have these links automatically update if I add/delete/move the tables and their captions around later. For example, text may say "...see Table 7 for a list of ingredients...", and the number "7" is a link to the caption for table 7. If I move table 7 later, Word will update the table number in the caption, and I would like it to update it in the text reference as well so that I don't have to do this manually. I'd appreciate any help on this, thanks. |

Answer: Link text (eg. "See Table 5") to table caption number in Word?
Yes, you can easily link text to table caption number in Word. Here's how you can do it:
Now, the text you selected will be linked to the caption for the table, and if you move the table or change the caption number, the link will automatically update to reflect the new caption number. You can repeat these steps for any other tables or figures you want to link to in your document. This will save you time and effort in manually updating the references if you move or delete tables later.

If you have used the Insert | Reference | Caption feature to insert the
captions, then use Insert | Reference | Cross-reference to insert the cross-references. They won't update entirely automatically but will update when fields are updated (at print time, for example). -- Suzanne S.
