Hi ?B?Q3J1c2hlcg==?=,
When opening an existing Word document in Word 2000, a blank document opens behind it - whch means you have to close it once you have closed your existing document. Is there any way of switching this feature off??? Please list the exact steps you use to open a Word document. In general terms, this is not something Word does. Assuming you mean that you go into File/Open and open a Word document, then most likely you have a FileOpen macro running somewhere that's opening a new document, besides. If you go to the START button, choose "Run" then type: winword.exe /a Then confirm the dialog box, Word should start up in SAFE MODE. Do you still see the behavior?
