I am using another program that links to Word. Is there a way to turn off
the Normal Template prompting me to save it. Also can i turn that off for
the global template also?

Not sure about the "using another program that links to Word," however, in
Word, the prompt is controlled by Tools - Options - Save - Prompt to Save
Normal.dot.

But disabling the prompt is not recommended, as this just gives Word
permission to save Normal.dot without asking you. If you are being prompted
to save Normal.dot every time you quit Word, see “Word prompts me to save
changes to the Normal.dot template” at
