In trach changes, can deletions be displayed in strikethrough?
In earlier versions of Word, when using track changes, it was possible to
show deletions in strikethrough, thereby making the reviewing changes of text easy, which is after all the object of track changes. However in Windows XP, you are provided with two options, either using balloons so that you constantly have to move your eye from the text to the margin, which takes over twice as long to review deletions, or you can get the deletions to show up in the text where thy are shown as standard text but in a different colour, which is highly confusing. In trach changes, can deletions be displayed in strikethrough, as previously? |

For unknown reasons, in Word 2002 (not Windows XP, that's a different product) Microsoft left out the settings for deleted text in the Track Changes Options dialog. They were put back for Word 2003. It's still possible to set the options through the macro window. You need to do this only once, unless you change your mind about the settings you want. Press Alt+F11 (shortcut for Tools Macro Visual Basic Editor). In the editor, select View Immediate Window, which opens a pane at the bottom of the editor. Copy these two lines and paste them into the pane: Options.DeletedTextMark = wdDeletedTextMarkStrikeThrough Options.DeletedTextColor = wdAuto Put the cursor on the first line and press Enter, then put the cursor on the second line and press Enter. Close the Visual Basic editor window. In the Track Changes Options dialog, turn off the balloons. Your deletions will now appear as strikethrough text in black. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |

Fine and quick solution Jay !
And if I want to hide the deleted text during reviewing (in W2002), that is to say, not accept it yet as deleted text, is there also a good solution for that? I have tried it with a simular VBA-module found in this newsgroup, just leaving a side markup in the margin were deleted text stood, but it resulted in strange page break behaviour. I forgot how the module was (because of selective memory? ) "Jay Freedman" schreef: On Sun, 16 Jan 2005 09:17:02 -0800, "hedders" wrote: In earlier versions of Word, when using track changes, it was possible to show deletions in strikethrough, thereby making the reviewing changes of text easy, which is after all the object of track changes.
